The Ward Ave. Missions department is a vital part of the outreach ministry of our local church. For many many years our congregation has supported local and foreign mission fields with finances and prayers. We have supported COCOP ministries in India, Nigeria and other countries.
Over 15 years ago Ward Ave. teams started going into other states and countries to see firsthand how our missions were operating. The first trip was to Paraguay, South America to visit missionaries Dan and Gwen Miller. The bond we established then is still in place today. After years of supporting Promiseland Camp, Safe Harbor Children’s Home, and other Miller’s ministries, we decided to help plant a new church in Paraguay. This new church planting is in Quyquyho,Paraguay. To date the land has been purchased and foundations have been constructed. We hope by the end of 2014 it will be complete. There is already a mission congregation worshiping there under Dan Miller and Pastor Angel. Watch this site for updates or visit the Quyquyho Community Center page on Facebook. The country of Paraguay is our Harvest Partner for Missions.
Throughout these years we have also done one on one ministry in New York City with Street Life Ministry….in Washington, DC with Center for Student Missions and in Canadaguia, NY with Youth With a Mission. We have also ministered in the streets and garbage dumps of Dominican Republic.
At our local church, every 2nd Sunday of the month is designated "Missions Sunday."
Each month an offering is received, and we have a time set aside to talk about the missions our local church supports.
As indicated above, our church is "mission-minded." We consider our mission field as both a distant country and also a neighborhood street. Traditionally, the women of our church spearhead our mission endeavors, and in recent years both men and women have been very involved in our endeavors. Through our missions offerings, monies received for missions support Paraguay, South America. The mission in Paraguay has continued to grow, and we support things like Youth Camps in Paraguay, as well as several children's homes in existence to support the many abandoned children in Paraguay. Our church has had several short term missions teams to Paraguay, so many in fact we've lost count on how many teams have traveled there.
We are also involved in supporting the following ministries with financial gifts: Voice of Salvation, Open Door Ministries, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, One-Child Fund, Gideons International, and Hands Across Carolina. As other needs arise, we respond to them via our Helping Hands Ministry through our International Offices.
